Art’s not totally dead in the provinces…

If you haven’t been to see The Day of the Dead exhibition curated by Andy Clover (well done!) at The Refinery, (Halifax St., Nelson), it’s worth a look. My favourites are fellow Nelson jeweller Kay Van Dyk’s loving take on loss (she has used twigs adorned with plastic fruit & flowers); Andrea Chandler’s bejewelled blanket (it looks beautiful, but it’s meaning is menacing – think blood stains); and   interesting photography from Sally Papps –  spying forgotten rooms through her lens (melancholic abandonment), Craig Potton – majestic Niagara Falls (made me think about the insignificance of life in the face of such magnitude and power) and Jaqueline Aust’s photogravure prints.
